It's been a big day for smooth fm. They announced they would now be broadcasting into Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide on DAB+ (see here), they got into the spirit of Valentine's Day (see here) and now what's this in the Sydney sky ?.....

Kyle now appears on Lawsy's show

Yesterday, Lawsy appeared on Kyle & Jackie O (see here).

Today, Kyle returned the favour and dropped into 2SM and chatted with John.

In the chat, which lasted for more than an hour, they talked about anything and everything.

How a B105 listener proposed to his Valentine

Over the last couple of weeks, B105's Labby, Stav & Abby have been preparing Brisbane's Decent Proposal (see our original story here)

Well they pulled it off, with listener BJ proposing to Carla in the middle of Brisbane's CBD.

It involved a flashmob, a pipe band, a cheersquad and a 10k diamond ring.

Watch how the proposal happened below. You can't top that on Valentine's Day.....

Two Brissy stations broadcast side by side

This afternoon, 4BC and 4BH are broadcasting together to help open 'Bee Gees Way' in the Brisbane suburb of Redcliffe.

The 2 stations have the exclusive broadcast rights to present and stream video from the event that will see the unveiling of a Bee Gees statue. Barry Gibb will also be in attendance.

If there was ever a day tailor-made for dmg's Smooth to make some noise, it is Valentines Day. Accordingly, they have hit the streets to give 'random acts of roses' to women, and produced this video to the tune of Michael Buble.

Luke and Scott from MKR love radio

The latest My Kitchen Rules entrants, Bondi Boys Luke Hines and Scott Gooding, last night made history by scoring four perfect 10/10's. Today they have been doing the rounds of breakfast radio.

Luke & Scott appeared on Kyle & Jackie O, Fitzy & Wippa, Matt & Jo, Triple M's The Grill Team and as first timers on-air have taken a liking to 'being on the radio'.

Confirmed: Smooth national on DAB

dmg radio Australia have today, on Valentines Day, launched the smooth brand nationally with the format available on DAB+ in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

The smooth brand rollout means that dmg have removed dance format Novanation in Perth and Adelaide from the digital platform. Novanation remains available on DAB+ in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

How Fairfax Brisbane handled the flood crisis

As News Director, I've always anticipated to "expect the unexpected" - But during the week of the 2013 flood crisis, it was more than what could be anticipated.

It was Friday morning. 4BC's Content Director Anthony Frangi and I met to discuss and plan coverage of the upcoming weather event, but the information given to us suggested that Ex-cyclone Oswald would only deliver heavy rain and the potential for flash flooding across parts of Brisbane on the Saturday night into Sunday morning. We planned accordingly. It wasn't until the system stalled over Bundaberg causing tornadoes and major flooding, that we realised things were going to get dramatically worse.

• Free meals, which caused Kyle to get flashed by the censor
• How many staff each of them have for their shows

Vale Jim Beam

Perth radio veteran Jim Beam has passed away. Jim was formerly of 6KY, 6IX and 6PM, and began his career in Adelaide under the name 'Big Red'.

Legendary Perth announcer and good friend of Jims, Gary Shannon, revealed the news on his Facebook page, commenting;

“It is with great sadness I would like to let any body who knew him or any person who remembers Jim Beam. I first met Jim when I was 17, working at 6KY in James St. Jim was a larger than life character, a big man with a lot of red hair and a big personality."

Valentine's Day with bite !!!

Brig and Lehmo from Gold 104.3 are holding a Valentine's Day stunt tomorrow.

One of their listeners could win a $4k diamond necklace but there's a catch (there always is ;) they have to dive for it, with sharks.
