Farewell Georgie Gardner

Contributor

Today, Georgie Gardner signed off from Nine's Today Show after an amazing seven year run on the breakfast show. She has been one of the shining stars at Nine and one of the strongest on air performers at the network.

Georgie originally started in radio, working at NXFM Newcastle and then in 2DayFM’s newsroom in the 90s, at the same time I was 2Day’s Program Director.

She was awarded Australia’s Best Newcomer in metro radio and is from a long line of strong female talent who have made the transition from radio to television. Others names include Carrie Bickmore who started at 92.9 Perth, Jane Kennedy from Triple M Melbourne, Kate Langbroek at Nova Melbourne, Chris Bath and Amanda Keller who were in radio in Bathurst and many more.

In her farewell show, one of the other cast members said the show’s EP had a simple brief for Georgie when she stared: “I want Australia to get to know you.”

It's a great, simple brief and applies to any on air talent working on a breakfast show.

Georgie’s leaving the Today Show to spend more time with family and will continue with Nine’s News and 60 Minutes.

She is a brilliant role model for any person venturing into a media career whether it’s radio or television.

We wish Georgie all the best for the future, no doubt we will see a lot more of her.

See the Today Show's farewell here.
