Are These Guys The Next Hamish & Andy?

Contributor

Following my Podcasting article a few weeks, here are a couple of guys who are doing great things with podcasts.

Ben Jenkins and Michael Hing’s podcasts are well worth a listen. Ben is from the Chasers new hit ABC shows Media Circus, Michael a stand up who’s performed at Sydney & Melbourne comedy festivals.

They could easily be the next Hamish and Andy , Wil and Lehmo, Fitzy & Wippa or Merrick & Rosso. Their work reminds me of Merrick & Rosso in their triple j early days. Ofcourse they went on to achieve great success on Nova Sydney breakfast.

Though I’m sure they would rather just be the next Ben & Michael, they would improve greatly with direction and coaching and could hit mainstream commercial radio when they are ready. Their topics at times aren’t mainstream but that’s something that should come with the right direction.

Michael’s anchoring is strong and the duo already has great chemistry.

Stand up comedy is still a good source for future radio talent and they join a long list of comics who have enjoyed success on radio like Tony Martin, Meshell Laurie, Mick Molloy, Wendy Harmer, Marty Sheargold, Amos Gill, Tom Ballard , Dan Debuf and others.

Ben & Michael’s podcasts Free to a good home are worth a listen and include guests like Tom Ballard and the Chasers, Chas Licciardello.

They would sit well on triple j breakfast, drive or nights, Triple M nights, Nova & Today late nights and further down the track Today or Nova network drive.

Both were featured in The Top 12 Hottest Comedians Who Could be the Future Stars of FM Radio list.  It’s early days for them for commercial radio but remember their names.

They are hip, cool, marketable and talented. Their podcasts are available via iTunes.
