WSFM goes #1FM - how Charlie got his revenge

2Day FM have held the #1FM spot in Sydney since 2006. 7 years on and WSFM have today overtaken them to be the #1FM station in Sydney, but only by a whisker.

The 'funemployed' Will & Woody

Will & Woody have been heard on the Today network since mid 2011 doing various shifts, from late nights, to weekends, to national fill-in gigs.

At the moment they are no longer on the radio and are “funemployed”, as Woody describes it.

Today we find out more about the duo - how they were discovered, their approach to prep, what they learnt while at SCA and what's next for them.

Wheatley looks for more radio opportunities

It was no surprise that Southern Cross Austereo announced the sale last week of Sea FM and Mix FM on the Sunshine Coast, legally they had no choice other than to sell.

What was a surprise to many was the identity of the successful bidder.

Eon Broadcasters, a company owned by the ASX-listed Oceania Capital, and by Glenn Wheatley, acquired the stations for $17.75m, which based on speculated earnings, means the stations have been acquired on a multiple of around 6x EBITDA.

'More people listen to triple j now than at any point in the station’s history'

Post survey 1 I caught up with triple j Manager Chris Scaddan (pictured) to talk about the results in what was a good day for the network.

Mark: Firstly, congratulations on a strong start to the survey year for triple j. Up in every market, with the biggest increases coming in Sydney and Adelaide.

Commercial radio tend to believe any rise for triple j in survey 1 is Hottest 100 related. With all markets up strongly on weekends – especially with 2JJJ #2 FM (WSFM only FM station in front of you) - is their assumption correct or are other factors at play ?

An SCA campaign over a year in the making

Over the last couple of days you may have come across a very clever and powerful campaign being shared around social media.

2013 starts......now

Well, here we are again, back for another year.

I hope you managed to have some time off over the non-survey period and are ready and raring to go in 2013.

Survey 1 is now underway. All the plans and lineup changes will be in place and, for many, the alarm clock has been set for 3.30am again (I don't miss those days !!). I hope you have a successful and enjoyable year ahead.

I also want to start the year by personally thanking you for your support of Radio Today since we launched less than 12 months ago.

The build process from an empty shell to a functioning radio station was a once in a lifetime experience for many of us.

These pics show the build nearing completion...

The controlled interview

Across the weekend, quick, blurry shots started being posted on Facebook and Twitter of Justin Bieber outside his hotel room (see right).

The teen star is here for 3 days, mainly to pre-record a performance for the grand final of 'Australia's Got Talent'.

A few key radio shows are gearing up for their interviews with Biebs, like @fifi_box from Fifi & Jules who said...
