“I don’t ever not want to be on radio”: Ash Bradnam on Game Changers

Staff Writer

Nova Brisbane Breakfast host Ash Bradnam features on the latest episode of Game Changers: Radio with Craig Bruce

“The old radio dog” spoke candidly about the ups-and-downs of his career including his initial departure from Nova, as well as his aspirations as a young radio journalist.

“I originally wanted to be a rugby league journo,” he revealed. “I’ve never called a rugby league match on radio – it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.”

Bradnam described his first encounters with David “Luttsy” Lutteral, a longstanding friend who would go on to become his colleague at Nova Brisbane.

“I got a job completely out of the blue at 4BC as a cadet sports journo,” he started. “I was sent over to The Gabba to watch the test match cricket and I was held in such high regard that I was sharing a booth with the kid who was doing community radio – that happened to be Luttsy.”

During the episode, Bruce noted his failed attempts to lure the popular radio identity to Triple M Brisbane.

“My powers of persuasion aren’t nearly as good as Sean Ryan’s,” Bruce joked of Bradnam’s decision to return to Nova after a stint away from the network.

Bradnam was a founding member of the Nova Brisbane’s on-air Breakfast team. Launching the show in 2005 alongside Kip Wightman, Meshel Laurie and Luttsy, the team broadcast from a makeshift studio while they waited for the permanent space to be built.

From there, the show went on to become the #1 Breakfast in Brisbane for their target demographic.

The next episode of Game Changers will feature the Hit Network’s, Andy Lee.
