Grant Denyer will join Em Rusciano and Ed Kavalee on 2Day FM Breakfast in 2018

Former Assistant Editor

2Day FM’s new 2018 breakfast show is complete, with the network revealing today that Grant Denyer is set to join Em Rusciano and Ed Kavalee next year.

This latest revelation comes just over a month after Kavalee was announced to replace Rusicano’s 2017 co-host Harley Breen.

Family Feud host Denyer will undoubtedly add some unpredictability and energy to what is already shaping up as one of the country’s most anticipated radio shows for the coming year.

“I am thrilled Grant will be joining the Sydney breakfast show,” said Hit Network head of content Gemma Fordham. “He is one of the country’s most energetic personalities and was a dynamo on breakfast TV and reshaped the landscape.

“When it comes to entertaining Aussies his instincts are spot on and I know he is the perfect addition to brighten up Sydney’s morning alongside Em and Ed.”

“I’m told breakfast radio is even more dangerous than race car driving and I fractured my bum and almost died doing that this year….so, what could go wrong!!!” said Denyer.

2Day FM lost the Kyle and Jackie O breakfast show at the end of 2013, it’s since had a number of attempts to regain its market position. First with Merrick Watts, Jules Lund and Sophie Monk (with and without Mel B). SCA then tried with Dan and Maz in 2015, but were dumped for Rove and Sam who abruptly ended their stint in 2016.

“I’m delighted to have the blonde bombshell, glamorous bogan and Australia’s best friend, Grant Denyer, join our show,” said Rusciano.

“Grant is a fantastic talent and broadcaster. He’s one of the biggest names in Australian showbiz (that’s not a short joke),” added Kavalee. “We have a brand-new microphone and booster seat ready to go (that was a short joke).”

2Day FM breakfast with Em Rusciano, Ed Kavalee and Grant Denyer will kick off on January 15.

No… just no. Did they not learn from the Merrick, Jules, Sophie, Mel and Whoever Else Wasn’t Moving Fast enough debacle?

You can’t just throw a bunch of randoms together.

Plus is Grant moving to Melbourne for this or sitting in the Sydney studio whilst the others are in Melbourne? They’ve just moved the entire Family Feud production up to Sydney so Grant doesn’t have to commute to Melbourne anymore.

Great move 2Day – Denyer is very well known and approachable and will add some unpredictability. Another brick in the wall…..build….market…..trial….improve !

Believe he’s doing it from Melbourne so he can be with Em and Ed makes sense.

Smells of sales wanting bigger names -so let’s find a TV personality to join. Em is big talent, she sold out the opera house!

We recently surveyed a studio audience and asked them their first response to this question.
“Name a Sydney breakfast show that won’t be on the air this time next year?”

Em and Grant should have stood up for the photo.

Oh, my. How does this happen? The lives of these 3 hosts have never previously intersected in the real world. It’s only a pay check that binds them together now.

What on earth is the offer for the listener here? “Please tune in and hear us pretend to find each other funny”?

Denyer was terrific brekkie TV talent. But that doesn’t mean he will translate well on radio. His Sunrise content worked because it was just hit ‘n run. He did two short weather crosses per hour for about a minute or so before reading the forecast. That was it! 3 minutes of TV per hour.

On Feud, for the most part, he reads questions off cue cards and enjoys some friendly banter with the contestants. He’s great at that. But, we’re not going to see that winning smile on radio. He is going to have a HUGE job ahead of him to re-tool his brain for radio.

I suspect he’s surrounded by a lot of people who keep telling him he is amazing and can do anything. Good luck with that. History has shown us that a transition from TV to radio (and vice versa) is not at all easy and often ends in tears.

PS: Did we not just read recently Denyer saying that commuting to Melbourne for Feud (where it had been filming until just recently) was making him tired and he didn’t like being away from his family in rural NSW? Talent need to learn that truth is the only option. Spin and confection will always bite you on the bum.

He’s tripped himself up with this one. He will see less of his family and will be travelling more in 2018.

I wish the HIT network would just realise 2day FM won’t come back from this if this is another failure show.
Cancel the breaky show, chuck in a music jock shift for a few years and let people enjoy your station again!
Smooth is successful from doing the same thing.

He has to be doing it from Sydney considering FF production just moved there; and he lives in Blue Mountains

I actually thought Ed and Em could have worked.
This is just unnecessary

2DAY FM is a radio station that just refuses to learn from their mistakes.

Looks like another year of ratings hovering around 2-3%.

My ears tell me this will not last. Crystal ball shows hard times ahead on and off the air. Urrrgh! Run now.

Can’t wait for the 2019 breakfast show of Pete Helliar, Karl Stefanovic and [insert random Bachleorette with latrge social following but who wouldn’t know a radio if it hit her in the face here]! That will certainly get 2Day FM back to the top!

Grant Denyer is a super talent and with the right people around him he will generate ratings.Im not certain that Em Rusciano is one of those right people though. Here is the network opportunity to build the breakfast show around a talented individual. They need to make him the star.
Grant will need to be in Sydney for his television commitments at least twice a week.I just hope he gets the support to avoid burning out.

Why do all the press release statements smell of cheese and roses? Come on, it’s 2017 people can see through that. Who will put the hand up and sack themselves when this doesn’t work? And it won’t work. A person in radio for two minutes can see that.
This station should be removed from the network for a while, give it time to recover. It’s only giving it a bad name.

Good luck

I wouldn’t be surprised if SCA don’t just set up a line to his house so he can do it from there. James Brayshaw did The Cage from his wardrobe for years.

This will be an interesting mix, Em screeching, Ed being super quick with a laconic vibe, and Grant being cheeky, will laugh at them both.

It’s crazy enough that it just might work, however it’s hard to see it as anything else but another loop of the revolving door that is 2Day breakfast.

They should just reunite Tim Lee and Biggzy, great on air chemistry and a passion for the job.

The show was just starting to show some promise. Now likely to turn into one of those normal sounding SCA shows. tune out.

I think Grant is only in, until Ash Williams returns from the celebrity jungle.
