Marc Fennell talks early career fails and changing jobs on #YGSS

Staff Writer

This week on You’ve Gotta Start Somewhere (#YGSS), Rachel Corbett chats with radio and TV host, Marc Fennell.

After winning a movie reviewing award from the AFI as a teenager, Marc volunteered at emerging Sydney community radio station, FBI before getting the gig as “That Movie Guy” for Triple J. 11 years later Marc has written two books, worked as a professional guest across a number of networks, tried his hand at comedy and can currently be found hosting SBS Viceland’s nightly show, The Feed and Download This Show on the ABC.

In this episode, Marc talks about why he gave up the role of Triple J’s movie reviewer, how early failure shaped his career and what Brendan Fraser throwing a newspaper at him taught him about interviewing.

You’ve Gotta Start Somewhere is a podcast that goes behind the scenes of show business to prove there’s no such thing as an overnight success.

Each week Rachel chats with well-known media personalities about how they got into the business, how they’ve managed to stay there and what it takes to build a successful career. Click here to subscribe to the podcast.
