Kevin Blyton joins Hall of Fame

One of Australia's most respected radio owners, Kevin Blyton, has been inducted into the Commercial Radio Hall of Fame tonight at the 2013 ACRA's.

The award recognises outstanding lifetime achievement, and contribution to the radio industry.

Kevin began his career 35 years ago as an announcer at 2XL in Cooma, and at the age of 19 bought the radio station. He went to own a network of regional stations as far as Tasmania and New Zealand.

The Capital Radio Network consists of 2XL and Snow FM in Cooma, 2CC and 2CA Canberra, 2GN and Eagle FM Goulburn, and 6IX in Perth. The latter 6 are joint ventures with Grant Broadcasters. As part of the suite of radio stations, Capital also operate a raft of digital stations.

Kevin has served on the board of CRA for 14 years, and is known as a strong advocate for regional radio. In addition to is commercial radio interests, he owns the Charlotte Pass Resort in the Snowy Mountains, the Snowy Mountains airport, the Kosciusko Chalet Hotel and also local transportation services and cinemas.

Speaking as he received his award tonight, Kevin told the assembled audience;

"I had no idea this was coming, I have wanted to work in radio since I was 8 years old. I am very blessed".

CRA CEO, Joan Warner, said: “Kevin Blyton is a passionate supporter of radio and, in particular, regional radio. Kevin has always taken a measured, informed and strategic approach to industry issues, which has greatly contributed to the industry body’s cohesion and success over many years.”

The Hall of Fame recipients are nominated by industry peers and are selected by a high level judging committee. 

Previous inductees include Paul Thompson, Greg Smith, Graham Mott, Tony Pilkington, Derryn Hinch, John Laws, Bob Rogers, Gary O’Callaghan, Bob Francis, Rod Muir and the late Frank Hyde.

Congratulations to Kevin, a worthy inductee into the Commercial Radio Hall of Fame.
