ACRA’s Finalists Fever – #2

Staff Writer

There are thousands of hard-working, dedicated and amazingly creative people throughout the radio industry – and every year a small fraction of those people make the short list as a finalist in the ACRA’s.

Just like we did last year, over the next few weeks, Radio Today will shine a spotlight on the best of the best.

The ACRA's Finalists Fever – counting down the days to the big event on October 18 by profiling the finalists across all categories. You can get involved by emailing us here.

Today we feature, Lana Timmings from ARN who is up for Best Promotions Director and from Nova Entertainment, Best Newcomer Off-Air Finalist, Anna Crotti

Let's Roll Out the Red Carpet….

ANNA CROTTI

BEST NEWCOMER OFF-AIR (P)

Star 104.5, Central Coast – Nova Entertainment

So give us a wrap of your career so far?

From starting on reception, I took the precious opportunity to produce both before and after hours to soak up all the wisdom of the producers and talent around me.

From there I jumped at the opportunity to produce the Breakfast show at Star1045.

After 10 months I have just recently been asked to venture back to Sydney where I am now producing the More Music Breakfast show with Bogart Torelli on smooth95.3. Incredible.

What’s one of the key things you have learnt about working in the industry so far?

I make sure that I put 110% into everything I do and most importantly, do it with heart. In my short time in the industry I can clearly see that a common thread between all successful producers and programmers is a passion for what they are doing and the industry they are in.

I like to think that I too share that passion, and that it will only grow over the years

You can’t make a speech on the night but you can here. So let’s pretend you won…. who would you thank?

I would thank (Fitzy & Wippa producers) Tom Ivey, Sarah McGilvray and Georgie Clark for mentoring me since I first showed interest in producing. Also to Paul Jackson and Peter Clay who trusted in my ability. Lastly, I would thank all the people that were kind and encouraging while I was on reception. Internal employees, clients and label reps – I’ll remember you lot if I ever get to the top!

LANA TIMMINGS

BEST PROMOTIONS DIRECTOR (M)

WSFM, Australian Radio Network

Give us a quick snapshot of your radio background

Best days of my life were driving around in the station car giving out 'free stuff' but that couldn't last forever – soon moved onto reception then later begged for a job in promotions!

Tell us a little about your Best Promotions Director Metro entry?

From a Million Dollar giveaway to Backyard JAMs with some of WSFM’s biggest artists, we covered a lot again this year.

This is my second year nominated (and I was just as stoked as last year) and winning an ACRA is high on my bucket list.

What are the 3 promotions you’re most proud of from the last 12 months?

It's hard to pinpoint only three. Overall I put the same effort and commitment into every promo I work on – from million dollar giveaways to movie tickets!

It's not about the scale of the promotion it's about engaging the listener, consistency and making the prize appealing.
