ACRA’s Finalists Fever – #7

Staff Writer

There are thousands of hard-working, dedicated and amazingly creative people throughout the radio industry – and every year a small fraction of those people make the short list as a finalist in the ACRA’s.

Just like we did last year, over the next few weeks, Radio Today will shine a spotlight on the best of the best.

The ACRA's Finalists Fever – counting down the days to the big event on October 18 by profiling the finalists across all categories. You can get involved by emailing us here.

Today the spot light is on:  Kaycee Frame from SCA in Hobart and Ange Anderson from Nova Entertainment in Brisbane.

Let's Roll Out the Red Carpet….

KAYCEE FRAME

BEST PROMOTIONS DIRECTOR

Sea FM & Heart 107.3, Hobart TAS, Southern Cross Austereo NM

Give us a quick snapshot of your radio background…

I started as a member of the Street Team at 7LA in Launceston casually and as soon as I handed out that first station branded balloon I knew I wanted a career in radio. I made the move to Hobart and joined the Street Team at the Hobart Media Centre which is now known as Southern Cross Austereo Hobart. After paying my dues on the Street Team I became the Sea FM/Heart 107.3  Promotions Coordinator. I still remember walking into that building as a full time staff member and feeling like I needed to pinch myself because I’d made it. Little did I know three years later I’d land a job working for Southern Cross Austereo Sydney. I’ve been the Campaign Activation Executive here in Sydney for four months and absolutely love it. Still need to pinch myself occasionally just to be sure.

Best part of your job?

The people I get to work with make it. I’ve been blessed that since I started in radio I really have been surrounded by amazing people. Being a promo girl for some time I know the joys of freebies and the occasional photo with a celeb but at the end of the day the best part is the people and getting to listen to music all day is just gravy!

Tell us about your ACRAs entry?

My entry highlights some of my great achievements from my last year in Hobart and for a regional market not even part of the mainland (as we call it) we really do punch above our weight. In the past twelve months Heart 107.3 has been heavily involved with the presence of the North Melbourne Football Club in Hobart. We won the business from our competitor and have just continued to deliver great results for them both on air and on the ground. The President of the club James Brayshaw was kind enough to help me with my entry which was pretty amazing. Also what we accomplish as team every year for the company’s annual fundraiser Give Me 5 for Kids really is amazing and I am so proud to have been a part of that.

Your speech, if you were able to make one…

I’m a true believer that you get the best result when you work as a team and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to work with while being in Hobart. From my partners in crime in tactics to the General Manager they truly brought the best (and at times worst but mostly best) out of me. Would thank my Big Sister as she is the one that got my foot in the door in the first place and has given me nothing but love and support since I was a bub. I’d probably try and be funny, fall and end up a youtube sensation so it wouldn’t be all bad.

ANGE ANDERSON

BEST NEWS PRESENTER – METRO FM

Nova 106.9, Brisbane QLD, Nova Entertainment M

Ok Ange, tell us a bit of your background…

I’ve spent the last decade working in seven newsrooms across the East Coast. I landed my first gig in my final year of uni at 102.9 Hot Tomato before deciding to explore the bright lights of Sydney where I was a network newsreader and reporter at 2UE. However, I missed FM news and jumped at the opportunity to join Nova 96.9 in 2010. A year later, I decided to move back home to Queensland as breakfast newsreader at Nova 106.9.

Tell us about your ACRAs Entry for Best News Presenter Metro FM?

It’s been a huge 12 months of news and I wanted my ACRA entry to reflect the big events which have affected Nova 106.9's listeners.  I also aimed to demonstrate the balance in my bulletins to suit the FM style; from dark stories like the disappearance of Flight MH370 to Lindsay Lohan's leaked list of A list "achievements".

This is your moment in the spotlight, if you won what would you say?

Thanks first of all to Ash, Kip and Luttsy and my boss KJ (Jay Walkderden) for creating such a fun working environment every morning and encouraging me to be myself on air.  Also to my boyfriend Trav, who puts up with the mood swings from working breakfast hours! And to mum and dad who loaned me cash early on in my career when I got paid next to nothing. But I wouldn't be here without my mentor Kate Carlyle who gave me my start. It's been a wild ride and I couldn't imagine not working in radio.
