Girls get their steak on

Staff Writer

In 2013, Star FM Albury breakfast host Kristie Mercer started a tradition – Girls 4 Steak.

It came about when Kristie shared a story about always being served chicken while guys got the steak when being served meals at catered events. Not fair !

So she rallied the women of Albury together to enjoy a plate of steak and raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

150 locals got together on Thursday night for an auction, live music, shirtless waiters and steak!

Kristie says: "The most touching story out of ‘Girls 4 Steak’ came from a recently diagnosed attendee who refused to leave the house after treatment for fear of being seen. ‘Girls 4 Steak’ was her first outing in months."

Last year the event raised $3,000, this year the final tally was over $5,300.

Here's a break from Ben & Kristie that told the story of the event :-
