Sammy Power gets married…and divorced in a day

Former Mix 106.5 Sydney, NX FM Newcastle and Hot 91 Sunshine Coast personality Sammy Power has been married in held an extremely bizarre wedding on the Sunshine Coast.

You will never guess who Sammy was married to.

No we're serious, you really won't.

Sammy decided to marry herself to celebrate losing half of her body weight, giving up smoking and giving up drinking. And the ceremony took place on the day before her 50th birthday.

The wedding took place in Noosaville, and Sammy told News Limited that she wasted far too much time worrying over the small things, thus the need to change;

“I feel mentally clear now — I wasted so much time thinking I was fat and obsessing over small things, but I’m still a gossip queen and I’m still my bitchy self.”

There were 120 guests including former Bronco Darren Lockyer, Mike Goldman, plus a number of (ironically) celebrity chefs from the US flown in for the event.

Sammy commented; 

“Yes, I’m going home alone but when the right person comes along, they are going to be with someone pretty amazing — I’m ready to meet the right person. A few people cried at the wedding because it really was beautiful.”

“I had gorgeous men at my table. It wasn’t because I was single and desperate that I married myself, it was about accepting myself and just loving yourself.”

The following day, her 50th birthday, she hosted a divorce party at the Noosa Surf Club where the marriage to herself was annulled. 

You couldn't make this up….seriously.
