SCA and i98 deal; “Makes strategic sense”

i98FM Wollongong may soon be part of SCA?

SCA is understood to have begun “ongoing” negotiations with Bruce Gordon’s WIN Corporation for the sale of its northern NSW television assets.

An SCA-issued statement released today (31 Jan) confirms that SCA intends to sell its Northern NSW television assets and to potentially purchase i98FM.

In the licence area, SCA currently broadcasts Network Ten programming via its five-year exclusive licencing agreement with the TV network, who are obligated to approve the completion of any proposed transaction.

Talking to Radio Today, one industry insider has suggested that the acquisition, should it move forward, “makes strategic sense.”

“Given the size of the Wollongong market and the fact that SCA doesn’t have a station in this market, it would be a good purchase – at the right price,” they said.

If i98FM does become part of SCA, it will increase their regional radio network from 68 to 69 stations.

An SCA spokesperson has told AFR, “SCA will make a further announcement if agreement is reached on the transaction proceeding.
