ARN severs sales ties with 6PR, "effective immediately"

ARN and Macquarie Media have announced changes to its sales representation agreement for their respective Perth stations - ARN's 96FM and Macquarie's 6PR.

For the past two years, ARN has represented both 96FM and 6PR in the Perth market, across both direct and agency sales.

Following a review of sales structures across both stations, ARN and MML have decided that effective immediately, each network will now represent its own sales functions for its station.

ARN CEO Tony Kendallsaid: “Since the acquisition of 96FM by ARN two years ago we have been reviewing the structure and agreements in place across the station to ensure we have the best offering for both our clients and audience. While we have enjoyed representing 6PR and Macquarie Media in Perth, we believe this new sales arrangement will have mutual benefit for both stations, as well as clients and audience. We will continue to work with Macquarie Media where the opportunity arises in 2017 and beyond.”

MML COO Adam Langsaid: “News Talk 6PR is a critical part of our national News Talk network alongside 2GB in Sydney, 3AW in Melbourne and 4BC in Brisbane. Following the success of Steve Mills and Basil Zempilas on 6PR Breakfast we have invested in new presenters to achieve audience growth in 2017 and beyond. The new sales arrangement will allow each station to give greater focus to our clients. We will continue to enjoy an ongoing relationship with ARN across a range of services and opportunities.”

ARN also said that 96FM and 6PR will continue to collaborate where the opportunity arises and will work together to ensure a smooth transition for clients.

Nothing about the gutting of the 6PR newsroom, pre-recorded bulletins and taking news from 2GB?

Nothing about the woeful culture at 96FM either. I hear things are pretty bad and being covered up.

The culture at 96FM is pretty bloody awesome. I can tell you that right now!

I think you'll be hard pressed to find anyone at 96fm who isn't a little relieved and excited about this change.

You'll be hard pressed to find anyone at 96FM who isn't a little relieved and excited about this change?

I wonder which Duncan Campbell ARN sycophant was delegated to write that falsehood.
Evidence clearly shows things couldn't be worse at 96FM. The severing of the sales relationship has resulted in several 96FM salespeople defecting to 6PR.

The first senior sales rep to quit was frogmarched from the building. Had ARN replicated with subsequent resignations it would have effectively been devoid of sales team.

96FM has moved from a psuedo KIIS format to gold, yet retains the KIIS product Hughesy and Kate along with Kyle and Jackie O.

Neither suit the new format and both are reflective of why 96FM has declined under ARN ownership.

Perth loathes both with a passion.

Thanks to the (lack of) wisdom from Duncan Campbell and clowns, 96FM has gone from a solid number two, with a couple of number ones, to number seven and sliding.

Nobody can criticise the culture at 96FM because there isn't one. What's more, the 'new' gold format is positively schizophrenic.

I think it's fair to say a lot of current and past senior management in Australian radio should not be working in Australian radio.

They just don't have the IQ.
