Vote 1: K rock’s Josh Buckle for Australia’s Hottest Radio Hunk

Staff Writer

An unlikely ginger jock from Geelong is front and centre of all the hype surrounding Take 5 Magazine’s nationwide search for Australia’s Hottest Radio Hunk.

Josh Buckle, who is one-half of the K rock 95.5 breakfast team, has caught the attention of KIIS106.5’s Kyle & Jackie O following this week’s reveal of the magazine’s 20 finalists.

“He must be a bit of a hotty I reckon. Have you heard of Josh? I’ve heard of all the [other] names,” Jackie said to Kyle on-air yesterday (14 Feb).

She then announced that they had Buckle on the line.

Talking to Radio Today following the surprise call from the Kyle and Jackie O Show, Take 5 magazine Radio Hunk nominee Josh Buckle sounded genuinely surprised by all the attention.

“I was just about to launch into my hourly trending segment when the comp line called and it was Kyle and Jackie,” he said.

“We had a radio inception moment when we were on each other’s shows. We were a little shocked when those guys called through.”

Buckle told Radio Today that he received an unexpected email from Take 5’s reps asking to confirm his age, thinking it was either “a joke or a stitch-up” from his co-host, Tom.

“There hasn’t been this much social media groundswell since Shannon Noll wasn’t let into the Crazy Horse,” Buckle joked.

Radio Today spoke with Take 5’s deputy editor Kate Kirsten yesterday, who said before declaring Australia’s number one Hottest Radio Hunk, the magazine would be culling the list to a top 10 later this month.

“For Kyle and Jackie O, two of Australia’s most popular announcers, to have such fun with Kyle’s finalist spot is great – and what a lovely surprise that they phoned Josh Buckle from K Rock in Geelong to wish him luck,” she said.

“Well, admittedly it was also to give him some stick, but they did wish him well! I can’t confirm who Jackie O gave her vote to, but I trust she chose wisely.”

Kirsten said her phone has been ringing non-stop from other announcers asking if they polled well and wondered whether they will receive an honourable mention.

“It’s a lighthearted competition, all in good fun. I’m so pleased that Australia’s best real-life magazine, Take 5, is giving people a smile when there is so much bad news out there, and I’m excited to see who makes the Top 10 in just under two weeks time.”

Buckle is up against some big names, including Hamish & Andy and Kyle Sandilands.

Radio Today has cast its vote, and we encourage you to do the same.
