dmg’s enthusiasm & evolution

Staff Writer

With the news on the weekend that Lachlan Murdoch's Illyria is now the full owner of dmg radio australia (see story here), CEO Cathy O'Connor believes it will begin a new growth phase for the network.

"Lachlan has been the Australian chairman for three years so while it (moving to full ownership) doesn't change the daily dynamic there's a lot of enthusiasm at board level."

Talking to The Australian about the potential of acquiring other stations she said…

"We're open to any discussions. Radio assets are tightly held good businesses and there is still investment going on in the sector."

Some talk is about them targeting Fairfax. We have received a couple of comments from you on that subject…

With current legislation allowing a network to only own two stations in one market, if changes proposed in the government's Convergence Review are passed this would quickly change.

"I think we will be enthusiastic participants in however the media landscape evolves," O'Connor said.

Talking about their joint venture with Rdio she said…

"We're interested in building adjacent revenues and profits. This is a company that will continue to evolve and change."

Now that Illyria owns 100% of dmg radio, do you think they will change the name of the company ? Vote now here
