Singo steps in at 2GB

Staff Writer

It has been a bad look for the management of 2GB this week, who have been depositioned by their majority shareholder, John Singleton.

Earlier this week, Ray Hadley allegedly 'bullied' the 2GB Digital Content Manager, Richard Palmer, abusing him in front of his staff over an unloaded podcast.

Palmer subsequently made a formal complaint to the Macquarie Radio Managing Director, Rob Loewenthal.

Loewenthal took the decision to suspend Hadley over his alleged behaviour for the week, with Program Director David Kidd sending a memo to all staff to that effect.

What happened next was unfortunate.

Loewenthal was over-ruled by the networks largest shareholder, John Singleton, who reinstated Hadley after he phoned him directly to complain about the suspension.

Singleton was quoted earlier this week as saying "I'm a betting man and I'd like to put a million dollars on at any price that Ray Hadley is (back) on air". An unhelpful position to take given his Managing Director and Program Director had suspended Hadley just hours earlier.

After returning to his morning show, this afternoon Ray Hadley addressed 2GB staff in the boardroom at Pyrmont, apologising for any embarrassment he has caused this week.
