31 new transmitters for SCA

Southern Cross Austereo are about to replace 31 ageing radio transmitters across the country.

SCA's National Radio Engineering Manager, Steve Adler (pictured on the left at SAFM with John Adnour from Nautel), said:

“Southern Cross Austereo is delighted to be partnering with Nautel to replace our existing broadcast transmitter fleet. From 300 W to 20 kW, Nautel has a solution to cover all our AM and FM transmission needs.”

Nautel’s representative in Australia is Innes Corporation. Innes GM Karen Olliver said, “SCA is one of Australia’s leading and innovative group broadcasters. Their engineering always represents cutting edge technology.”

Now that SCA are undertaking to replace transmitters, when will they replace the transmission antennas that broadcast the signal from the transmitter?

2DAY/2MMM don't cover as far as they used to and same in Brisbane where it seems Nova and 973 reception reaches further than it used to.

Hopefully this means it's time to upgrade their processing gear too?

2Day and 2MMM in particular sound like rubbish compared to the DMG stations, especially Nova 969 who sound outstanding on FM.

If I know Techs and I think I do, they will all be emailing each other about where they were when they heard the news. Some may even need to take a couple of weeks off to compose themselves.

Big shout to Blake Beale and his team doing amazing stuff over in Perth and have already rolled this lot out.
