DMG axes 3 from Melbourne newsroom

DMG Radio have this afternoon halved the staff in their Melbourne newsroom, making three journalists redundant, including one of the last remaining members of the Nova 100 launch team, News Director Nikole Gunn.

Gunn, who was with DMG for 12 years, and journalists James Lake and Bree Roberts (right) will leave the company this week following the restructure.

Whilst most bulletins will remain Melbourne-based, it is believed that DMG will now be networking some of their on-air news bulletins from the Sydney newsroom.

It is understood that weekend news will be networked completely from Sydney.

Oh dear, when is Murdoch going to sell it and just get it over with? Its a shame.

What an act of disloyalty to their Melbourne audience. Station managers just don't get it, their obsession with cost cutting is killing their own industry. Audiences drop, they cut costs again, audiences fall further. Melbourne hospitals, you are safe - none of your brain surgeons are moonlighting as radio station bosses.

This is #%^*,

I feel for all 3 of them, James, Nikole and Bree are great talent, hopefully ARN, 3AW, SEN or SCA will snap them up

I'm really starting to worry about radio in this country, When Nova first started, it was a welcome change, no networking thus creating more jobs. Now sadly it seems worse than ever with the amount of networking.

It doesn't end there with Sydney News Director Denee Savoia made redundant as well as part time journalist Natasha Lee.

Sounds like New Zealand!

We are left with two radio companies more/less, with almost EVERYTHING coming from Auckland.
News Director (9:00am 25 Apr 2012)
Does anyone listen to FM stations for news anymore? If I was running a news room I'd forget the hourly updates (which are out of date) and run a twitter feed in real time. Send me the stuff I want to know about as it happens and not just when you stop the 20 song music blocks. Too many sources these days to hang around and wait for the lame 90 sec news bulletins

Bree is a star. Enough said.
