"Committed as we are to Australian diversity, we are to community broadcasting", said Communications Minister Malcolm Turball.

Yesterday, 60 politicians and Community Industry representatives gathered in Canberra.

Malcolm Turnbull spoke of the contribution that Australia’s largest independent media sector provides, including diversity and localism. Of note, "its capacity to service communities inadequately catered for by the mainstream media and its place as a vital component of the broadcasting world."

Representing the sector included, the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA), National Ethnic and Multicultural Broadcasters’ Council, Christian Media Australia, RPH Australia, Australian Indigenous Communications Association Incorporated , Australian Community Television Alliance and the Community Broadcasting Foundation.

The inaugural event was a chance for the sector to share information about community radio and television and to build relationships with government representatives.

The gathering also offered  industry reporesentative CBAA, a chance to showcase their latest marketing.
