Vale Ed Nimmervoll

Legendary Australian music journalist Ed Nimmervoll has passed away from a brain tumour aged 67.

Ed had a long and proud history in Australian Music, and is regarded as one of the most influential music journalists ever in this country.

He worked on the famous Go-Set magazine in the late 60s and 70s, before moving to Juke magazine in the mid-70s where he spent over 15 years. He was also one of the creators of Take 40 Australia; still running to this day.

Over the years Ed authored numerous biographies for many music stars including Glenn Wheatley, Grinspoon, Mark Seymour and Slim Dusty.

Ed had been diagnosed with his illness following a collapse at the 2013 ARIA awards in Sydney, at which he had to be revived by medics. Following his collapse in 2013 he said:

“It's a separate medical problem to my brain tumour. I have survived. I will survive, music is not a health hazard.”

His passing was confirmed by his daughter Amber, who said that he was surrounded by his family as he died. Amber said;

“He will always be loved by many as a husband, father, grandfather, friend, colleague and mentor"

In November Ed was to be inducted into the Music Victoria Hall Of Fame, sadly that will now be done posthumously.
