40 years for 3SSR

Staff Writer

3SSR, Swinburne Student Radio is turning 40 this week. It all started in 1975 at its Hawthorn Campus as 3SW. As member numbers grew, it went on to become the voice of the students, staff and the community of the uni.

Cameron Cook 3SSR Programming and Promotions Manager told us: “This week we are celebrating our 40th birthday with games, music from the years of broadcasting and heaps of giveaways, as well as a special live broadcast outside of our newly refurbished studios and offices at Swinburne University’s Open Day on Sunday 2nd of August 2015 between 10am – 5pm. Come celebrate our 40 years of 3SSR by joining us at Open Day, by listening to us at 3ssr.org or you can download the TuneIn App”.

In the 1990’s the government pulled their community FM license, so the station is only heard online these days. Swinburne Uni pulled the pin on their Radio courses last year but the 3SSR brand has expanded into TV, producing content for Channel 31 in Melbourne and they are releasing their first magazine next month.
