“We have to deal with this. This is our country, this is our watch.”

Fox FM’s Fifi Box broke down in tears as she spoke about the plight of refugees in Australia’s offshore detention centres this morning.

“These are mothers, these are fathers and these are children and the acts that are being committed against them are unacceptable. We need to act.”

Fifi set the tone as close to 10,000 people rallied together in Melbourne’s CBD last night for a candlelight vigil to show support of Syrian refugees coming to Australia.

Fifi said: “We need to talk about Nauru. We all need to talk about Nauru and what is going on at Nauru”

Fifi burst into tears as she described the situation of a 23-year-old Iranian asylum seeker, Nazanin, who is currently in hospital Australia without the support of her friends and family after she was allegedly brutally attacked and raped.

“This is happening on our watch. It’s heart-breaking.”

“These are people – and then they come to our country and they get put into Nauru.”

“We have to deal with this. This is our country, this is our watch.”
