Richard ‘Chooky’ Fowler’s Last Show Thursday

Staff Writer

After 22 years on 92.5 Gold FM, Richard ‘Chooky’ Fowler is retiring from Breakfast on the Gold Coast.

Since starting as a causal on the GC on Christmas Day 1993, Richard has survived the rule of eight different General Managers and seen countless Program and Content Directors come and go. But for 17 of those 22 years, Richard worked alongside Sarah Wharmy, who became better known as his ‘work wife’.

Southern Cross Austereo’s longest serving General Manager, Nick Scott, has worked with Richard for 15 years and describes him as the best in the business.

“He has always been a pro and respected at all levels within the Gold Coast and Tweed community,” Nick said.

“From politicians to rock stars, from advertisers to listeners, Richard has touched many people’s lives, and I along with many others will miss him greatly.”

After so many years at the helm, Richard admitted that it will be difficult to step away from his positon but assured that he will not be too far away.

“Life is all about making decisions and in this case I know it’s the right one,”Richard said.

Having weighed up the need to be available to assist my mother in New Zealand requires me to take a step back from my full time broadcasting life, I am very relaxed in making this call, however difficult it is stepping down from a great 22 years with the breakfast show.

“Still, I hope it’s not entirely the end of the road for me with Gold FM as I’ll be filling in here and there down the track.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the relationship I have developed with our Gold FM audience, Bridge, Spida and all the professionals I work with.

Richard’s final show with Bridge & Spida, will be this Thursday June 30 with an outside broadcast on the Gold Coast.
