The second survey for 2012 on the Gold Coast has been released. See the results here.

At the top, all 3 main players have taken a hit with Sea FM dropping 2.2 to 12.8%, Hot Tomato down 1.0 to 13.6% and Gold down 1.5 to 15.1%.

Gold retain the #1 spot but Hot Tomato is now back in the #2 position they held late last year. Sea FM is 3rd.

Both SCA stations have had significant drops in cume, particularly in afternoons.

  • Gold FM have grown 25-39 by 3.8, however declined 40-54 to be #2 in that demo.

  • Hot Tomato have fallen with 25-39's (going from 1st to 3rd) but have increased 1.3 with 40-54's to see them #1 in that demo.

The dayparts...

  • Breakfast slightly down for Gold (still #1). Down for Hot Tomato, although they have moved from 3rd to 2nd to be 0.1 in front of Sea.

  • Daytimes down for Gold, Hot Tomato and Sea.

  • Drive up for Gold, down for Hot Tomato and Sea.

  • Evenings down 4.0 for Hot Tomato, up for Gold, and down for Sea.

GOLD FM and SEA FM dominate Gold Coast ratings again!

Gold Coast listens and loves Southern Cross Austereo sister stations

The Gold Coast woke up to a stunning winter’s day this morning and news Gold FM remained their number one radio station across all people 10+, with Richard, Bridge and Spida their favourite breakfast radio program to start the day.

Gold FM has maintained its domination of the Gold Coast radio market, taking number one position on 15.1 points for all people 10+. Breakfast with Richard, Bridge and Spida also maintained number one position, increasing their lead with 16.4 points, and more than 3 points clear.

Gold FM’s drive show, Merrick Watts and the Highway Patrol, introduced only this year, showed continued growth, increasing their share by 1.1 points, while Gold FM remains the Gold Coast’s number 1 workday station.

Sister station Sea FM has taken the title of most listened to breakfast show on the Gold Coast; with a cumulative audience of 98,100 (all people 10+), and is the number one show for people under 40. Continuing the Southern Cross Austereo double header win, Sea FM took the title for number one drive show with Fifi & Jules leading the market on 14.2 points.

In the growing realm of online radio activation, Sea FM welcomed a significant 2,501 facebook fans since last survey, and is the number one overall site with over 13,000 fans and a reach of more than 111,273.

Craig Bruce; Head of Content, Southern Cross Austereo Southern Cross Austereo said, “This is another great result for Gold! Richard, Bridge and Spida have increased their lead in breakfast. We're also thrilled to see Merrick and the Highway Patrol increase their share in drive. Sea FM is now dominating the under40 audience on the Gold Coast, with a clear result in the critical 25-39 year market and Fifi & Jules claiming their first number 1 result in this market.”

Paul Bartlett; General Manager of Southern Cross Austereo Gold Coast agreed. “A great result for the Gold Coast Media Centre with the number one station for the under 40’s, Sea FM, and the over 40’s in Gold FM. It has been a lot of hard work from our breakfast teams and it shows by having the number one breakfast show overall, Richard, Bridge and Spida on Gold FM and the most listened to breakfast team Galey, Baggs and Charli on Sea FM. The figures prove that the hard work has paid off and we are glad that the Gold Coast community has responded so positively.”

Looking forward to your analysis of this one... love to see how much overall cume shrank. Ouch for Sea FM! Gold Coast punters taking time adjust to the tightened music logs?

One of Radio Todays most influencial women in radio is not gonna be happy. Looks like Anna Murdoch-Mann (owner of the overly-ripe tomato) will not be getting her return this month.

....whoops hang on forget the results just show Ms. M the media release put out by the station. All good, nothing to worry about, carry on you're all doing a great job!

Q: Why is Gold now called WiFi?

A: Because they are Gen Y-less

I might need to explain that to some of you
Jason McLean (2:22pm 02 Aug 2012)
Gold may still be #1 but I think Hot Tomato are on the move.....good figures across all age demographics. Long time loyalty to the breakky shows on Gold and Sea is what's holding them together. The key thing about Hot Tomato is they are truly live and local right across the day and night, not many stations in Australia can boast that. Amazing how many stations push the 'local' angle, even though most of it is hubbed to or from somewhere else.

WELL DONE DAVID RYMER AN UNDER RATED PROGRAMMER IN MY VIEW. WOULD BE WORTH HEARING HIS VIEWS ON HOT TOMATO SUCCESS WHICH CLEARLY IS A REFLECTION OF HIS WORK
Brian (2:04pm 04 Aug 2012)
The 'other station' category on the GC is well over 20%. A big chunk of people are listening to great stations like Rebel and Breeze FM, and also Radio Metro in the younger demos. Why would anyone listen to Gold when Rebel and Breeze are available? Whenever I stray onto Gold FM it horrifies me with the repetitive and bland (yet annoying) music choices. Tune to Breeze or Rebel on the coast if you want a proper classic hits or rock station.. (BTW I don't work for them, I just listen to them constantly from Brisbane)
