7HO Announcer Taken Off-Air

Staff Writer

Anna Dare, one half of 7HO FM’s Hobart breakfast team has been taken Off-Air after comments this morning around the Dreamworld tragedy.

Commenting on the Secret Sound Anna said: “not getting stuck in a conveyor belt at a theme park is it …… too soon?”.

The station acted immediately, suspending the announcer and issuing a formal apology on its website.

In a statement, Grant Cameron Chief Executive of Grant Broadcasters said the comment was unacceptable and did not reflect the values of 7HOFM or its parent company.

“We sincerely apologise to our listeners, the broader community and everyone affected by the Dreamworld tragedy,” he said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives.”

“This was a dreadful mistake and the announcer is devastated at such a lapse. As employers, we must also consider her well-being.”

“We have dealt with this unfortunate incident as swiftly as possible and will use it to further improve our standards and the training of our on-air staff.”

Grant Cameron also confirmed Anna was taken off the air immediately, was suspended and will be counselled. A decision will be made at a later date as to when she might return to an On-Air position.

All traces of the 7HO FM Breakfast team have also been removed from their platforms. Mick Newell, one half of the popular My Kitchen Rules father and son team, has been on Breakfast for over three years at 7HOFM and  was joined by Anna at the start of this year.
