SCA’s incoming digital news editor has left the building

Just six weeks into the job, Southern Cross Austereo’s digital news editor, Sarah Michael, has abruptly left the network.

Michael’s joined SCA from Daily Mail Australia where she was the online tabloid’s deputy editor. Her appointment was labelled “a commercial radio first” by SCA when the role was announced earlier this year.

Back in February, SCA’s chief creative officer Guy Dobson said, “It’s an exciting time for SCA News as we invent how news is deployed on-air and online going forward.”

SCA had hoped that Michael’s experience in managing newsrooms in an online environment would enable her to lead a digital news strategy for SCA’s metro newsrooms around Australia when she began last month.

Radio Today understands that Michael’s landed a gig at Yahoo7 during her short six-week tenure with the radio network.

Natasha Jobson, SCA’s head of metro news operations, told Radio Today that the digital news editor role is to be replaced with three digital news producers based in its Sydney and Melbourne offices.

“Future proofing the news team on-air ties into online,” she said, outlining the metro network’s continued plans to create “compelling online news” for its listeners.
