K rock’s Tom and Buckle to “consciously uncouple” next month

Staff Writer

Sad news out of Geelong’s K rock 95.5 today with the announcement that popular breakie co-host Josh “Buckle” will be leaving the station.

After Tom’s recent wedding it was clear that there was only room for one ‘red head’ in Tom’s life, Buckle obviously took it personally! The boys have agreed to a conscious uncoupling and thus their last show together will be on December 15th.

“In all seriousness, we’ve known for a little while that Buckle was keen for a break from radio, a break from 4am starts and a taste of ‘normality’ for a while,” says Geelong Broadcasters general manager, Andy Mathers.

“Although very sad to see him go, I wish him all the very best, he’s a terrific young bloke. I don’t think it’s the last we will see of him.”

K rock Content Director James Speed added: “With Tom wearing a sarong into work yesterday morning, things were getting weird, probably good timing. Tom and Buckle are great mates so I’m expecting ‘Buckle from Belmont’ may be a regular caller in 2018.

“Disappointed to see Buckle go, however after a lot of thought and consideration he’s doing it for all the right reasons, I wish him nothing but the best.”

Applications for Buckle’s role open tomorrow (November 15).

This is a big loss for Krock and radio. Buckle is one of the best on air talents in the country not in a metro market.

It’s a shame when good talent gets burnt out and hang up the headphones.

Surely a fresh start in the city- as a guest programmer or something similar in an afternoon slot- would be ideal for some of the flagging FM stations who need a fresh yet experienced prospect- with an eye on a long term position if he resonates?
