1079 Life follows SAFM’s lead by bringing back classic name

1079 Life’s Aiden Grant noticed that Southern Cross Austereo’s SAFM was getting plenty of free publicity for rebranding to its heritage name this week, and wondered whether he could pull off something similar.

The community station’s Drive announcer thought maybe it was time to bring back 1079 Life’s ’90s branding too.

So with the help of Channel 9 Adelaide newsreader Brenton Ragless, they teamed up to return the station to its original name; Altamira FM.

“When my socials were flooded with people getting excited with the news of SAFM returning I thought to myself gee, nostalgia is a powerful thing,” Grant tells Radio Today.

“Perhaps it’s powerful enough for two stations in Adelaide! Imitation is the highest form of flattery right?”

The rebrand and name change meant putting together one of those long, indulgent audio packages, of course.

“The station you grew up knowing and loving is back! With all your favourite songs from the ’90s, and a couple of old friends to help us out too!”
