Mathew Eggleston becomes 2DayFM’s content director

Former Editor & Content Director

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) stalwart Mathew ‘Eggo’ Eggleston is 2DayFM Sydney’s new content director.

Eggleston has previously been the music director at SAFM, Fox FM, 2DayFM and the wider Hit Network. He’s also held the content director role for Hit105 in Brisbane (now B105 again), before moving into national roles including Hit Network national operations manager.

For a brief stint last year, he was content manager for 2DayFM, however when the station recruited Simon Greally as creative director of the station, he stepped back to focus on his national operations manager role.

Greally, however, only lasted a matter of months and has since departed.

Greally’s departure seems to have opened up the opportunity for Eggleston to return to 2Day, with head of the Hit Network Gemma Fordham saying it’s an exciting time for the station.

“Eggo has 2DayFM in his blood, his true passion for the station and brand is obvious and he will inject his enthusiasm into the 2Day product and shows,” she said.

“It’s an exciting time for 2Day with our new The Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed & Erin Breakfast show and we are looking forward to having Eggo on the team.”

Eggleston said he’s excited to get started and lead the talented team.

“When it comes to radio, 2DayFM was always the dream as a young kid growing up in Newcastle. I’ve had the pleasure of working here on multiple occasions already over my time in radio, but nothing compares to getting the keys to the station as the content director,” he said.

The appointment is effective immediately.

It must be great to land a role where mediocre performance in the ratings is perfectly acceptable

Good talent but he won’t fix a broken station

Well...

@BringbackDan&Maz well… a good talented programmer CAN actually fix a broken station. Nothing is ever beyond repair – look a Vega! (Now the powerhouse that is Smooth).

Won’t be good enough to make a difference unfortunately. The station is a poor third cousin in the pop music race. It doesn’t have the experience it needs to have behind it to make it work. On and off the air. I don’t see how Dave and Grant don’t recognise this and make some adjustments.

2Day FM is the Masked Singer of radio.
You know its on… But you dont care anymore – you sit through the first couple of episodes… now you just tune into the last 2min of the show to see who will revealed next… “oh look” its The next breakfast show, the next CD… Flick

2Day is now just hype, over produced Karaoke and sadly few listeners and people in the media industry care anymore…

I am sure Matt Eggleston will do an amazing job

If he doesn’t take the 2Day Fm breakfast show to at least 6% in the next few surveys, I will walk across the Sydney Harbour bridge naked

What a king! A man that knows how to build and nurture the right team.

Also hoping this role stops him commenting on old photos of mine on instagram.

What a place to work.

You’re our guy… Hang on, we’ve found someone we think is better, so you’re out… No he’s left, you’re back to being our guy.

@Açai Bowl build a team? The team is a show Nova build 20 years ago for Melbourne and everyone else has been in place for how ever long. What’s to build?

Let’s get real, he’ll be making zero decisions except approving new black thunder drivers to go to air and what he and Totts will order at the next record company lunch.

Good luck on the once powerhouse that was 2DayFM.
Stuck with less than 5 percent of the audience most of the time as young people desert FM radio for streaming music.
Sounds like fun

Yet another mediocre hire from SCA. Never a team to think outside the square or consider that real diversity (or people outside of the boys club) might actually bring something to the table… When will they wake up?

Sh!t i'm now that rant guy on RT

Wow, I don’t think Australian Radio’s culture has ever been so toxic, if these comments are a glimpse of what it’s like to work in this industry.

I mean there’s rivalry…and then there’s this. It’s actually disappointing. Are you guys proud to be contributing to the industry like this?

To all the juveniles on here, be better people. Move on.

I don’t actually care if 2Day stays at the back of the pack or returns to former success.

Tell me one person whose career hasn’t been positively impacted by Eggo. He’s responsible for so many people’s starts and progress in this industry, has been nothing but positive to the industry, and I’m glad SCA has recognised this and put him back in a position to have a direct positive impact again.

No one person can pull 2Day out of the position it’s in, that’s evident. And if everyone is seemingly only judging success on who comes first, then 95% of the industry is a huge failure.

To the people making these comments, have you been solely responsible for your stations continued overwhelming success?

If so, well done you, it must be amazing to be a radio god in 2021. Your friends must love your stories about the industry at BBQs.

If not, go do something positive in the industry.

It is possible to have a healthy respectful rivalry in this industry that we can be proud of being part of, instead of this school yard bullsht that keeps lingering.
