SCA content shuffle sees promotions for Mat Eggleston & Jase Allen

Former Assistant Editor

Southern Cross Austereo has made a raft of changes to its NSW content team, with the moves coming alongside a decision to call time on 2Day FM’s Grant, Ed & Ash Breakfast show.

Radio Today understands that among other changes expressed in a memo to staff today, Mat Eggleston’s role of Hit national ops manager has been expanded to become a duo role including NSW head of Hit content (including 2Day).

“Eggo has been in a national role for a while, working closely with me,” Hit Network head of content Gemma Fordham tells Radio Today.

“He’s done an amazing job and is such an incredible leader. He has a great programming brain.”

In a key change to the SCA content team structure, the role of Newcastle content director will be combined with that of NSW group regional content director.

That change will see current 2DayFM CD Jase Allen take up this new position, leading the Hit and Triple M NSW regional team, as well as overseeing SCA’s Newcastle stations.

“Jase has been phenomenal for us,” says Fordham. “He does an amazing job with our NSW stations.”

Fordham explained that the change in Breakfast format meant that 2DayFM no longer needs a sole, dedicated content director.

The structural changes also mean that Mike Byrne will no longer look after Hit and Triple M Newcastle. He is set to remain at SCA in a yet-to-be-disclosed role.

The changes will also allow Sea FM and 2GO boss Peter Yiamarelos to focus on his Gosford-based stations, which SCA called a “critical market”.

SCA also confirmed that Jamie Angel’s return to host 2DayFM’s new Music For Breakfast show means the network is now on the hunt for a new NSW head of Triple M content.

Poor Jase has been demoted back to Newcastle. He will get snapped up from one of the other networks soon.

The once great station no longer needs a PD that is only focused on the product. Sad. When will network programmers be held accountable.

Bill Caralis always said ” who needs programmers “. Looks like SCA have adopted similar business models in local markets, no local people looking after the shop. Centralised workforces saves $ but not much else. Sad.
