2UE’s 90th Birthday Celebrations

Staff Writer

Today 2UE celebrates its 90th Birthday as Sydney’s first and original commercial radio station.

2UE's celebrations started at 5am with an Outside Broadcast from Queens Square in Sydney's CBD, which runs until 2pm.

8am will see the return of the legendary Gary O'Callaghan to 2UE's airwaves.

2UE’s Content Director, Clinton Maynard told Radio Today: Gary was the biggest name in Sydney radio for many years. He was at 2UE for almost 50 years and rated number one in Breakfast throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s. Gary will be live on air, in studio with our Breakfast hosts John Stanley and Garry Linnell from 8am.”

Gary will cut 2UE's birthday cake at 10 o'clock and throughout the day they will talk to many of 2UE's stars from the past. WIll that include Alan Jones?

The station has also  been delving back into its archives telling the story of 2UE since it started back in 1925. Including producing a series of 15 segments looking at 2UE's history, listen below on  The Power of Talkback Radio – lots of familiar names.
