ABC Radio now streaming through Apple’s Homepod

Former Assistant Editor

Apple’s new smart speaker the HomePod now has support for streaming numerous ABC Radio stations.

Previously the HomePod had access to flash news updates from the ABC – with the national broadcaster the default for news requests.

Now users will be able to tune into Radio National, triple j, ABC Grandstand and ABC Classic FM.

In addition, it can play ABC Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Darwin and Hobart.

Accessing these stations is as simple as uttering the voice command “Hey Siri, play Radio National,” or any other station listed above.

The Apple Homepod is also responsive to requests for artists, songs, best music of the week, or specific types of music – as well as music, news and sports updates.

Amazon has its own partnership for news briefings, with Southern Cross Austereo, who provide both Hit Network and Triple M ‘flash briefings’ for Amazon Alexa.
