Aussie journo Peter Wells is teaming up with leading podcast network Acast for a new podcast celebrating the art of podcasting.

The aptly titled Meta will see Wells chat with leading content creators, and uncover how Australia has become a world leader in podcasting.

Series one sees Wells, also Nine Entertainment’s dedicated podcast reporter, speak with some of the voices behind Australia’s biggest podcasts.

They include former Prime Minister Julia Gillard (A Podcast of One’s Own with Julia Gillard) and the ABC’s Dr Norman Swan (Coronacast) as well as journalists Ruby Jones (7am), and Rachael Brown (Trace).

“Whether listeners are new to podcasting or on the hunt for the next binge-worthy series, Meta allows me to share the fantastic behind-the-scenes stories that I just can’t fit into 600 words of print,” Wells said.

“Each week I’ve had the opportunity to chat to amazing guests and meet some of my podcasting idols. My favourite interviews have been with independent podcasters.

“Podcasting has handed power back to both the creator and consumer, so that be you a news junky or true crime obsessive there is a podcast for you. In partnering with Acast I know Meta will be supported by a local team that amplifies its creators through great technology, marketing and content support.”

Acast content director for ANZ, Guy Scott-Wilson, welcomed Wells and praised him as a “driving force behind the rise of podcasting” in Australia.

“Through his continued support of local content, Peter has often helped elevate Aussie talent to podcast stardom,” he said.

“What I love about Meta, is that it not only celebrates the best of local content, but will also be a great source of discovery for Australians who are wondering what to listen to next.

“We’re delighted to be supporting Peter on this project and look forward to helping him share the strength of Australian podcasting with listeners around the globe.”

Meta is available on Acast or wherever you listen to your podcasts.
