AFTRS offers new development opportunities for creatives

AFTRS (The Australian Television and Radio School) have taken advice from Industry Advisory Panels to develop courses that provide the skills and knowledge necessary to realistically compete in the creative media landscape.

AFTRS Industry Certificates offers practical industry skills taught by screen and broadcast professionals. The Industry Certificates are structured for the working professional and so blend evening, weekend with mostly online sessions while still also offering hands-on learning that you can apply straight away.

We’re really aware that employers are often under-resourced to provide training for their staff – especially for career development,” says AFTRS head of Industry Program Wendy Gray.

Our Industry Certificates are designed to upskill people while they are working – giving them information, contacts, skills and inspiration their own employer may not have the resources to deliver internally.

“Because this course is primarily online, participants join in from right around Australia, and can do the bulk of the coursework when it works for them.”

The first of these practical courses is Industry Certificate: Script Assessment taught by industry veteran Christopher Sharpe (Diary of an Uber Driver, Run Fatboy Run) where those with exposure to screenwriting in the industry can further develop their skills and have a unique opportunity to network amongst peers.

Other upcoming courses for the developing and ambitious professional include Industry Certificate: Post Producer and Industry Certificate: Radio Content, Management and Leadership.
