AFTRS’ Grant Maling wins SCA Internship Award

Staff Writer

AFTRS graduate Grant Maling has taken out the 2018 SCA Graduation Internship.

It’s the third year the award has been presented to one talented graduate from the Australian Film Television and Radio School’s flagship Graduate Diploma of Radio course.

The award was presented by SCA Regional NSW content director Peter Yiamarelos, just after Grant completed his six-week paid placement at hit96.9 in Shepparton.

“The SCA Fellowship has allowed me to try new things while immersing myself in all aspects of the industry.

“I’ve presented my own show since day three and have had the freedom to try new things to find myself as a radio announcer. The fellowship has further developed the love that I have for
the radio industry.

“AFTRS was a massive eye opener to how big the radio industry is in Australia but also all the different facets of radio. Not only did I learn how each aspect of radio work together, but I also met so many amazing people who will soon be working in radio with me.”

SCA’s heads of content Gemma Fordham and Mike Fitzpatrick praised the internship program.

“We are thrilled and honoured to again be able to continue to offer an AFTRS student this opportunity,” Gemma and Mike said.

“SCA is committed to recruiting and developing people who have the potential to be the best in their field and this program is a great foundation to kick start their future careers in the industry.”

“SCA offers a wonderful career path for radio professionals, and is the largest commercial radio employer of AFTRS Radio graduates,” added AFTRS Acting head of Radio Jess Campanaro.

“AFTRS is pleased to have this award available for our most talented graduands and feel it further strengthens our commitment to provide industry ready radio professionals right across the
country.”
