Another music streaming venture

Staff Writer

Telstra have announced a partnership with San Francisco streaming service MOG.

They are intending to stream a minimum of 15 million songs to smartphones and computers following their launch, and they have said that the new venture will be excluded from any download quotas in users Telstra plan.

It is appearing more likely that at some point there will be fallout in the sector, with the Telstra/MOG partnership the newest in a list of companies all doing similar things in the space – Rdio, RaRa, JB HiFi Now and the soon to be launched Spotify.

The elephant in the room is Itunes, who have enormous market penetration and brand awareness, but at this point have no streaming model. It would seem a matter of time until they do.
