Aussies finalists in international awards

Staff Writer

US industry site All Access and A&R Worldwide will be hosting the Worldwide Radio Summit on April 27-28 in Los Angeles.

Notwithstanding America's tendency to brand concepts 'world' that generally are domestic (baseball world series anyone?), this awards ceremony does have an international flavour.

In a list of worldwide finalists that might be politely described as eclectic, Australian radio professionals and companies have been nominated as finalists in the following categories:

  • (Southern Cross) Austereo for best international radio group.
  • SCA's Guy Dobson for best international Program Director (despite not programming for many years!)
  • Triple J's Richard Kingsmill for best international Music Director.
  • SCA's Byron Cooke, and Triple J's Richard Kingsmill, for best international radio personality.
  • 2Day FM's David Konsky, and Fox FM's Matt Nikolic, for Production/Imaging.
  • Triple J for best online presence.
  • Triple J for most influential international station.
  • Triple J for most innovative international station.

And in the Music industry categories:

  • EMI Australia for best international major label
  • Liberation for best international indie label
  • Sony Music's Denis Handlin for major label executive of the year.
  • MGM's Sebastian Chase for indie label executive of the year.
  • Gotye for international artist of the year on a major.

The awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on April 28-29.
