The Australian Podcast Awards are the latest industry event to go online amid the coronavirus pandemic, with organisers confirming a virtual ceremony will take place in November 2020.

In a year where podcasts continued to experience massive growth, the Australian Podcast Awards will once again celebrate the best in Aussie culture, entertainment and journalism.

There are a series of new award categories in 2020 to reflect the expanding nature of genres available, including;

  • Sex & Relationships
  • Best Indigenous Podcast
  • Smartest Podcast
  • Best Lockdown Podcasts

Entries are open from Tuesday, September 1, with some key rule changes following feedback on previous years.

Important things to note include that audio entries will need to be compilations of 3-6 clips (with exceptions for some categories) and audio must be from episodes released between January 2019 to July 31, 2020.

Finally, podcasts must have published six proper episodes on their podcast feed to qualify.

In terms of judging, host of the Not By Accident podcast Sophie Harper will take on a new role of Chair Of Judges, and is responsible for selecting a judging panel that fully reflects the diversity of Australian podcasting.

“Judges will be looking for outstanding listens, with ideas, talent, formats and perspectives rarely heard in other media,” organisers explain.

“The best podcasts are ones that engage their audience every episode, not just with a standout clip – so we want your compilations to show that.”

This year’s partners for the Australian Podcast Awards are Acast, podnest.net and podfollow.
