B105 to ‘throw out playlist’ as Brisbane battles through latest lockdown
As Queensland’s capital grapples with its latest COVID-19 outbreak, forcing a snap lockdown and the cancellation of events and mass gatherings, the Hit Network’s B105 still wants the city to belt out showtunes.
The station said it will throw out its playlist tomorrow, and instead count down the 50 best showtunes, as voted by Brisbane listeners.
“We know that all shows in Brisbane have had to close, including Come From Away, which had its opening night on Sunday, so we are determined to celebrate the magic of musicals and theatre on air by finding Brisbane’s favourite showtunes,” B105’s content director, Jack Ball, said.
“The trouble is, what is the best showtune of all time? It’s a question as old as time,” Ball added.
B105 said it expected tunes from Chicago, Moulin Rouge, Hairspray, Book of Mormon, Rent, Les Miserables, Wicked, Dreamgirls, Jersey Boys, Cats, Mamma Mia and The Lion King to be on the list – as well as Hamilton, which recently opened in Sydney, making it the only country in the world where the production is currently being staged.
The countdown will take place on Thursday from 9am, which is, at this stage, Brisbane’s final day of lockdown.
This seems like a really bad idea
This seems like a really good idea.
A great spike for the target audience. Females 30-45 will eat it up. A simple and fun way to turn a negative moment for Brissy into a fun distraction.
*applause*
John doesn’t get invited to a lot of parties…
Anyone heard of April Fools Day?
Wow, I really had no idea that shows are that big in Brisbane.
John (like a lot around here) seems to think if a party isn’t designed specifically for him, then it’s a bad party.
He’s never been a big fan of baby showers for that very reason
great april fools day prank but remember to stop b4 midday or as they say the jokes on you
This sounds like a half baked Ball of an idea
