Blondie joins smoothfm’s weekend lineup

Adding to smoothfm’s all-star weekend bill, legendary American band Blondie will host their own show starting tomorrow.

Lead singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein can be heard on smoothfm 95.3 Sydney, smoothfm 91.5 Melbourne and smoothfm DAB+ each Saturday until May 20.

“We’re so lucky to have a range of incredible artists keen to host shows on smoothfm,” said Georgie Page, smoothfm program director. “Our Listeners love hearing about their lives and the stories behind their success.

“Debbie and Chris from Blondie are such an iconic music duo and their incredible chemistry and sense of humour will make for some great radio shows!”

Coinciding with the release of their upcoming studio album Pollinator on May 5, Blondie will share some of the new songs from the album with listeners.

Prior to founding Blondie with Stein 43 years ago, Harry landed a radio job at BBC working for a director in the Radio Production Department in New York City.

“I got the job by a very sneaky device,” she recalled. “There was a blind ad in the New York Times, I got my Uncle Art to write a letter and he wrote this great business-like letter. I signed my name to it and I got called in for an interview and got the job.

“Little did they know I knew absolutely nothing, I didn’t even know how to write a cheque,” Harry confessed.
