Radio stars rumoured for celeb version of Gogglebox

Just like radio loves to poach reality television contestants, Australian TV producers equally see the value in radio stars for their celeb-themed productions.

Radio Today understands that casting is underway for a celebrity version of Foxtel and Ten’s popular Gogglebox show, with some big radio talent in the mix.

Robert McKnight from TV Blackbox was the first to report that Foxtel is planning a celeb edition.

“Initial plans by Foxtel for the spin-off series were thrown into chaos due to the coronavirus, but producers are forging ahead with plans in place to make the show work,” reported the TV insider.

“While names are being closely guarded at the moment, TV Blackbox has heard whispers breakfast radio personality Jackie O will be one of the celebrities.”

Given her existing deal with Ten for The Masked Singer and on-air adoration for the reality television format, Jackie ‘O’ Henderson would be a shoo-in.

When contacted by Radio Today, reps for Henderson and Foxtel declined to comment.

Talking to other TV insiders today, it seems the KIIS FM star isn’t the only radio head in the mix.

Australian Radio Network stablemate Amanda Keller, Southern Cross Austereo’s Carrie Bickmore (pictured, above) and Sophie Monk are also among the names being considered for the spin-off.

All three have a relationship with Ten through various commitments with the network.

Sources also told Radio Today that international superstars Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan and Australian music export Kylie Minogue are on the producer’s wish list.

A UK version of Celebrity Gogglebox was a hit, which included Nick Grimshaw from BBC Radio 1.
