Christian O’Connell celebrates two years at Gold104.3

ARN’s bold choice to bring established broadcaster Christian O’Connell down under continues to pay dividends, and this week the Brit celebrates the two-year anniversary of his Gold104.3 Breakfast show.

The two-year mark came with O’Connell’s 404th show on air, alongside his trusty helpers Patrina Jones and Jack Post. The crew marked the occasion with some celebratory anniversary toasties on air.

The toasties were supplied by long-time listeners from local restaurant Chimmy’s.

Chatting about the past two years, O’Connell thanked listeners “for even giving this show a go to begin with.

“Now I’ve been living here two years, I do question why the big boss Duncan would do something as crazy as bringing an Englishman over here. It wasn’t until I got here that I realised what a seismic difference it would be.

After arriving in Australia in 2018, it took O’Connell around 18 months to hit the top of the Melbourne Breakfast radio ratings, and he has remained there or thereabouts ever since.

“My real fear when I moved here was that I wouldn’t have as much fun as on my old show [at Absolute Radio], and that I’d never get that magic back,” he added.

“For me personally it has been the most full-on, challenging and crazier times and years of my life. From us to you guys, is to say thank you. I always think there’s an extra chair here in the studio, along with me, Jack and Pats, and that’s you guys.”
