Cherie Romaro appoints two new hosts for Sunday nights on 2CH

Staff Writer

Classic Hits 2CH has hired Kayley Harris to anchor and co-present Sunday Night Open Line.

In a new direction for the show, Harris will be joined by Karl Faase, who is well known to the Christian community with his work in Christian media both in Australia and around the globe.

Open Line has long been a successful cornerstone for 2CH and with the departure of Aaron Wright, it has paved the way to introduce, for the first time a duo. It airs from 8pm to midnight.

Harris added: “I’m really excited to be co-hosting the Open Line program. It is a chance for our listeners to lighten their emotional load. I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully to others.

“We are living through difficult times and on Sunday night’s we’ll turn the airwaves over to our audience so they can tell us what’s worrying them, or what’s put a smile on their face”.

In addition to Harris co-presenting Open Line, she will present Sunday Inspirations from 5.30am to 7am, a chance to shine a light on unsung heroes and untold stories that are making a difference in the world.

Cherie Romaro, the stations’ general manager, said Faase will give audiences “a safe, anonymous, environment to share their stories on life, love, hardships and challenges.”

Faase added, “I am looking forward to joining the Classic Hits 2CH team and being part of the Sunday Night Open Line. Radio is so important for our listeners and even more so during the COVID-19 crisis where many find themselves separated from loved ones, and their community.

“Our aim is to build on the wonderful show that Aaron Wright has been championing, where our audience can connect, be informed and share our Christian spirit”.

All that money spent buying an old AM station, and now stuck with Christian programming. Ugghhh….

Reverend Bill Crews on 2GB has been number one for so long because he doesn’t preach. He actually does things to help people.

I thought Kel Richards who use to host the Sunday night radio program on 2CH was an excellent host . If it’s promoted as a Christian radio program it needs a strong and experienced Christian radio broadcaster like Kel Richards. In some ways Kel Richards was a good alternative to Bill Crews on 2GB who hosted a different kind of Christian radio program. Kel Richards is very experienced and is a skilful communicator.

The Sunday morning Christian programs seem to have been pushed to the early hours of Sunday morning which may suggest that 2CH is not taking their Christian audience seriously nor its history.

2CH has also played around with changes to its old successful music formula over the years with some poor decisions made. There seem to be attempts to also change the Christian identity of the station which a lot of listeners would not be happy about. That was the strength of 2CH in the past – the right music with a station that connected with Christians or people who wanted to hear Christian values – something most of the the other music stations did not offer.

Listeners need to be listened to and when changes are made listeners need to be communicated to and informed.

I wonder how many 2CH listeners have or will switch to Smooth FM or 2UE?

Brilliant decision Kayley is a star. And Aaron Wright was a good decision too. He has come within Point one of Bill Crewes.

Agree wholeheartedly with Joe – as he notes the Christian content is definitely on the decline. Aaron did a great job after Kel Richards and Aaron’s music choices were excellent. Karl Faase and Kayley have potential. Unfortunately to date the songs are just that – songs that you could hear anytime of the day or week. Sunday night has always been special but I am extremely disappointed in the lack of Christian content and music. Karl has done some great interviews but there are too many general talks and interviews lacking substance for the special night that Sunday has always been.

I have also noticed that the regular callers have not been ringing in. I tried to call 3 times tonight to comment on their music but on each occasion it wasn’t answered. Do they really want have open line??

According to their website Aaron Wright is still the presenter. Then tonight I discovered that Karl had tweeted that they were starting at 7pm. So I missed Leigh Hatcher – a great Christian journalist.

Please return to the format that you have had for the past decades. It was a great comfort and help to many.

Please Please give us Kel Richards back!
We want substance please.
Sunday night is desolate without him.

Where is Kel Richards now that he has left 2CH. Is he still broadcasting somewhere else or has he retired? I used to enjoy his programmes.
