CRA cleared of complaint

Staff Writer

A complaint made against Commercial Radio Australia has been dismissed by the Advertising Standards Bureau. The ad was for digital radio, and featured the word 'shit' used repeatedly, however being partially inaudible due to poor reception.

The complainant said "the use of the word shit is quite clear as only the 'I' sound is omitted".

CRA's position was that the ad has received only one complaint since April 2011 when it commenced running the creative on 42 radio stations nationally.

The ASB agreed with their position saying that the use of the word 'shit' was in a manner 'consistent with colloquial usage" and was not used aggressively.
