Dealing With The Tragic Death Of Prince

Staff Writer

Everyone has heard about the tragic passing of a legend, and your station has probably already responded in some fashion on the air.

A couple of reminders:

 1) Listeners will be talking about this all weekend long. Not just today, tonight and tomorrow morning.

2) Your station must have the ability to be really good when things are really bad. This is an event that affects the life of your listener.

3) Making an impact requires that you are ALL IN, and that you react QUICKLY and appropriately.

Check out Magic 92.5 in San Diego.Within an hour of his passing, the Rhythmic AC station had changed the name of the station to Purple 92.5. And it’s ALL Prince ALL Weekend long.
Check out the tributes and comments on their Facebook page. Program Director R Dub put out this statement:
Our listeners are devastated at the loss of Prince. He was Magic’s biggest living artist. When we defined Magic, Prince was at the core. He is part of the fabric of Magic 92.5.
As a tribute, starting today, Magic morphs into Purple 92.5. All Prince. Every song. All day and night. Today, tomorrow and over the weekend.
In my seminar When Tragedy Strikes, this is what we talk about. And this is what it takes to stand out and make an impact. Respond quickly. Be all in.
