Denis Walter jumps from 3AW Afternoons to Nights

Former Assistant Editor
3AW, Macquarie Media

3AW has moved Denis Walter to host its new local Nights show in 2020.

Walter has previously hosted the station’s Afternoons program, and Macquarie Media has revealed that a new local-host will be announced as his replacement, putting to bed rumours that Steve Price’s new 2GB Afternoons show could be syndicated.

Walter had hosted Afternoons for over a decade, starting in the slot in 2008.

“Denis is one of Australia’s most respected talents. Today’s announcement that his famous voice will be broadcast on 3AW Nights reinforces our commitment to Melbourne as we continue to provide a strong local presence across all parts of the day,” said recently re-instated 3AW station manager Stephen Beers.

Denis Walter is a OAM recipient for services to the performing arts and broadcast media. He will commence hosting his new Nights show on January 20, 2020.

“I’m looking forward to sharing the night with Melburnians, bringing them news and entertainment. I’m also looking forward to no morning peak-hour traffic,” said Walter.

The news of Walter’s new slot follows 3AW’s recent announcement that Breakfast host John Burns will continue to host the Ross & John Breakfast show until the end of July, 2020.

Macquarie Media formally became a part of Nine’s portfolio on November 8, with Tom Malone heading up Nine’s new radio assets.

Since then, Greg Byrnes has been appointed head of content, while national EP Michael Thompson and head of commercial Mark Noakes have each departed the company.

Not looking forward to Denis in evenings, prefer listening to John Stanley. So I will be using 2GB App on Computer for my evening talk back fix. Denis is to far to the left, and boring for me. And, defiantly won’t be listening to Dee Dee in the afternoons that’s for sure – can’t stand women on radio!!!

3AW has made BIG mistakes with these moves, and I probably won’t be listening to 3AW much anymore!!
