Ex triple j Breakfast host Erica Mallett launches podcast

Former Editor & Content Director

Erica Mallett is the latest former radio star to launch her own podcast.

The former triple j Breakfast host has released Wait, You What? today via Diamantina Media.

Mallett, also a content creator and musician, shocked fans late last year when she and co-host Sally Coleman abruptly ended their triple j Breakfast show. Mallett later revealed she’d been keen for the show to continue into 2021 and beyond.

Now, having moved on from radio, Mallett will use her podcast to host conversations with people about a range of subjects including lying to those you love, a sneezing fetish, and spy recruitment.

Despite the differences in stories which emerge in the podcast, Mallett said they are all about the core of human experience: love, loss, fear, shame, failure, resilience and belonging.

Publicity for the podcast said all episodes will feature Mallett’s “distinctly witty, inquisitive and personable interview style”.

Mallett added that she wanted to captivate, entertain and enlighten people.

“It’s been a huge amount of fun putting it together and I’m so excited to finally launch it into the stratosphere,” she said.

Despite leaving radio, she said her time behind the mic at triple j actually inspired her podcast.

“Being on triple j gave me such a huge insight into the way people work. You’d say something on air, and get instant feedback on the text line from thousands of people across the world.

“I found that people were so open with me. Occasionally there’d be a gem of a moment on air, where a listener would call up and share a story about something they’d been through. I saw how it connected with people, and felt how it connected with me.

“I’m just fascinated about how people get through things life throws at them – about how people work,” she said.

Diamantina Media’s other podcasts include The Betoota Advocate Podcast, Chat10Looks3, So Dramatic! and Hello Sport.

I gave it a listen because I loved Sally and Erica on the J’s. This podcast was extremely disappointing :(. None of the energy and wit, and all felt a bit forced. I guess Sally was doing the carrying!?
