Ex-Nova publicist Cath Mahoney launches podcast

Staff Writer

After writing press releases for the last two decades, Cath Mahoney has quit her job in PR and launched a podcast.

I Quit My Day Job is a podcast series all about Mahoney’s life after calling time on a publicity career to write a book.

Mahoney moved to Sydney from the UK in 2000, and most recently worked as a publicist for Nova 96.9 Breakfast with Fitzy & Wippa.

“I have loved my job as a publicist, but I always wanted to be a writer, to tell stories and make people laugh,” said Mahoney.

“After banging on for years about wanting to write a book I finally
made the leap and quit my day job.

The episodes of her new podcast are set to cover topics including coping with rejection, avoiding the fridge, and adapting to life without an IT helpdesk.

Mahoney will be joined by guests including Tash Sefton, Jason Dundas, 3 Birds Renovations and Samantha X, as well as others who have made incredible career pivots.

“For me, the podcast brings together two of my greatest loves; Michael  Parkinson and detective shows.

“I have channelled my inner sleuth (think Sherlock Holmes without the pipe or a younger Miss Marple) and tracked down some incredible guests, and every week I get my Parky on as I interview them.

“I hope the listeners enjoy the audio ride and hopefully it may inspire other dreamers to go for it too!”

I Quit My Day Job is produced by Kate, Tim & Marty’s pots and pans guy, Darcy Milne, and his company Pro Podcast Production.

The pod is available at whimn or Acast.
