The finalists for the year's best radio commercial have been announced today and include over 20 advertising agencies, radio stations and production studios.

The 'Siren Awards' will be announced at a Breakfast on 4 May in Melbourne.

An overall winner, who receives the Gold Siren, as well as a winner in each of the three categories: single, campaign and craft, will be announced at the breakfast. The overall winner will be automatically entered into the Cannes Radio Lions in June, and the writer will receive two tickets to attend the Cannes festival.

For the first time, this year will also see the client of the winning award also being awarded tickets to the Cannes event. CRA CEO Joan Warner said this new element recognised the important role clients play in driving the writing, production and delivery of high quality radio ads.

“There is also a client-voted award, of a $5000 cash prize to the writers of the ad voted the best by a panel of clients.” Warner commented.

Last year’s Gold Siren winner was a campaign called “Slow Mornings” for 7-Eleven, written by Andrew Woodhead and Eamonn Dixon from agency,  Leo Burnett Melbourne.
